In 1993-94 András Kocsik, a 21-year-old student of the English major JATE, arrived in Vermont as a summer camp supervisor, then took a stop in Portland, Oregon to visit his known American friends from Szeged. During his journey he made his way to Niagara Falls, the champagne streets of Chicago, the great prairie and the Rocky Mountains, while meeting countless interesting people. As he was very caught up in the hitchhiking, he continued his journey through San Francisco to Los Angeles, from which he came just before the biggest earthquake in the city's history. Although his visa expired and he did not get an extension, he decided to stay in the United States for nine months and spend time exploring the Western deserts, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and the Grand Canyon and New Orleans. At the end of the summer he hitchhiked in Maine, where Stephen King picked him up and returned to New York, where he traveled home. Andrew's adventures were also recorded in a book just published, which, of course, you could also get at the performance.
